that music meme that everyones doing

That Music Meme That Everyone's Doing

Mrs. Frizzle, now teaching in Turkey, on her blog gretmen tagged me

for this one.

Name 10 songs, and tell the story of each:

1. Most frequently played in iTunes (or the equivalent).

Copperhead Road by Steve Earl -- CD = Ain't Ever Satisfied - grinding

gritty Appalachian moonshine segues into crazed Viet Nam era mind

games - In a scary way it defines the era of my college years - It

gets in my head and won't leave.

2. Set to skip in iTunes.

Wanna know how old I am? I don't know what "Set to skip" means.

3. A lyric you love.

More Than One Way Home by Keb'Mo' -- CD = Just Like You

Well, there's more than

One way home

Ain't no right way

Ain't no wrong

And whatever road you

Might be on

You find your own way

`Cause there's more than

One way home

4. Makes you dance.

Pretty much darn near everything - I am always dancing around to

whatever music is on.

But really - two sure-fire-get-me-up-and-dancin'-songs:

Camel Walk by Southern Culture on the Skids -- CD = Dirt Track Date (I

admit, the `dancing' to this one is weird.)

Baby Likes to Rock It by The Tractors -- CD = The Tractors

5. Different from the rest of your musical taste. There's all kinds of

different.

Planet Africa various artists - It's early `90s Africa pop and has

such a lilt and life that it picks me up and gets me going again.

Souvenirs From Germany - various artists - pure nostalgia for my high

school years as an Army Brat in Munich

Custer LaRue Sings The Daemon Lover with The Baltimore Consort - She

has the voice of an angel .

6. You know all the words.

Country Roads (Almost Heaven, West Virginia) by John Denver - I fell

in love with the mountains of West Virginia in over 30 years of caving

in The Mountain State. Imagine a couple of hundred people, all in love

with the mountains and what is under them, arms linked and swaying at

a Labor Day get-together/festival/reunion/campout, singing along to

this song under a star-filled sky. Family and home.

7. Have liked for the longest amount of time. That goes back to a long

time ago. I really am an old lady.

Doo Wop: Earth Angel by The Penguins, Searchin' by The Coasters, Come

Softly to Me by The Fleetwoods

Big Band: In the Mood by Glenn Miller Orchestra, Take the "A" Train by

Duke Ellington, How High the Moon by Ella Fitzgerald

8. Most recent addition.

It's been awhile since I bought music, so I'm not sure. Maybe Cleaning

House by Saffire, the Uppity Blues Women

9. Reminds you of a relationship.

Graceland by Paul Simon -- CD = Graceland

And she said, "Losing love

Is like a window on your heart

Everybody sees you're blown apart

Everybody sees the wind blow "

10. Played at a memorable concert.

Music to a Lime Kiln production of Lee Smith's Fair and Tender Ladies.

The novel was converted to a play and the music was written and

performed by the actors and musicians in the production. Lime Kiln's

outdoor theater was perfect and the music was amazingly appropriate to

the story.

Desperado by Breakaway at Nashville West in Denver years ago

If you're familiar with Steve Earl, SCOTS, Custer LaRue, or know any
